Evening/Weekend Reference Librarian -- West Texas A&M University -- Canyon, TX
Evening/Weekend Reference Librarian. Cornette Library at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas invites applications for the position of Evening/Weekend Reference Librarian reporting to the Head of Reference Services. The person in this position is responsible for the operations and security of the library on Sundays and Monday through Thursday evenings, which includes securing the building at closing and supervision of student employees working the same schedule. Provides library users with assistance and instruction on locating information and using library software. Provides reference and instruction both face-to-face and via multiple electronic channels. Librarian works in a team environment to contribute ideas to the delivery of reference and information services; serves as liaison to one or more academic departments; participates in weeding, selection, and organization of the collection; provides basic troubleshooting of library computers; and serves on library and university committees.
Required: An ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science and reference experience in an academic library, including library instruction and supervisory experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Candidate must be able to demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of pedagogical theory and practice.
- Knowledge in the use of academic library resources, including reference tools and the processes of research and information retrieval.
- Familiarity with various operating systems and software.
- Knowledge and use of Microsoft products i.e. Word and Excel, with ability to demonstrate use.
- Knowledge of collection development principles.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with colleagues and a diverse campus community.
